The nonprofit EPECARE has developed a unique Train-the-Trainer program, providing education in first-aid and disaster response in resource-limited areas. Healthcare professionals and humanitarian workers in the US were trained not only clinically, but also in cultural competence. Then they travelled, this time to Haiti, to teach others. Once trained, the Haitian students become Community Responders – able to respond, provide care and lead in their local village or neighborhood. The skills they learn can potentially keep patients stable and alive until they can be transported to a medical facility, which can be hours away.
